Court Marriage: A Verdict of the Supreme Court

Getting married does not mean being deprived of a fundamental human right, nor is it an act of submitting to any form of servitude or degrading treatment. The provision in the former Muluki Ain and the current National Civil (Code) stating that property rights must be equal and granted in life itself implies that everyone within the family is to be respected and treated equally and that any direct or indirect conduct that undermines dignity and prestige is not acceptable.
