Crack Diamonds in Time of Need
The Pandav Brothers in the Forest
Long, long ago, King Yudhishthir lived in the forest with his four brothers: Bhim, Arjun, Nakul, and Sahadeva. They did not have a home, money, or comfort. Life in the forest was very hard.
One day, Yudhishthir wanted to do a big prayer ceremony, called a Yagya, to bring peace and blessings. But a Yagya needs many things—gold, grains, fruits, ghee, wood, and gifts. The brothers had nothing, not even one small coin. So they talked together. They decided to ask Kuber, the god of wealth, for help. Bhim, the strongest and bravest brother, went to meet him.
Bhim’s First Visit: A Big Misunderstandings
Bhim reached Kuber’s home. There he saw Kuber sitting on the floor, picking up tiny mustard seeds one by one. Kuber was very calm and gentle. He asked, “Bhim, how can I help you?” But Bhim did not like what he saw. He thought: “Why is he caring about such tiny seeds?
How will he give us big money? He must be very stingy.” So Bhim did not tell him anything.
He simply went back home. When Bhim told Yudhishthir what he saw, he said, “Kuber is a miser! He saves tiny seeds.” But Yudhishthir smiled kindly and said: “Bhim, small things matter. If we waste small seeds, we lose big food. If we waste small moments, we lose big knowledge. Go again and speak honestly. Kuber is generous.” Bhim felt a little embarrassed and decided to try again.
Bhim’s Second Visit: Real Kindness
When Bhim returned, Kuber was again picking mustard seeds. This time, Bhim explained everything clearly: “We want to do a holy prayer, but we have no money.” Kuber smiled brightly and said, “Why didn’t you tell me before? I would have helped you right away!” He took Bhim inside his grand treasure room. It was full of gold, silver, diamonds, and jewels— so shiny that Bhim’s eyes grew wide. Kuber filled many big bags with gold coins and put them onto a large cart. Bhim thanked him happily.
The Cart Stuck on the Road
But when they tried to move the cart…it did not move! The wheels were deep in the ground. Bhim pushed with all his strength. Kuber pushed too. But the cart stayed still. Bhim was confused and upset. Then Kuber gently sprinkled the same mustard seeds on the path in front of the wheels. The road became smooth and slippery. The cart slowly started to roll forward.
Bhim was amazed! “How did such tiny seeds help so much?” he wondered. Kuber smiled and said: “Bhim, nothing small is useless. The seeds I saved every day are helping us today. If I had thrown them away, where would they be now when we truly need them?” At that moment, Bhim understood the truth. Small things can help in big ways. He returned to his brothers with huge amounts of gold—wealth equal to crores of rupees.
